Mt. Aloysius edges Waynesburg

Senior guard Brittany Spencer scored 23 points and had 11 rebounds, but the Waynesburg women’s basketball team suffered a 65-64 loss to Mt. Aloysius at home Tuesday afternoon. Spencer also had three assists, three blocked shots and three steals.
The Yellow Jackets (1-2) led, 64-63, with 12 seconds left after a layup from senior forward Paige Pearce, but a foul call gave Mt. Aloysius two free throws with seven seconds to play and Lauryn Colmer made both shots.
Men’s basketball
Juniata 64, W&J 53: Alex Raymond scored 16 points, making him one of four Juniata players to reach double figures, as the Eagles handed W&J a 64-53 loss in Huntingdon Tuesday night. Juniata (3-0) limited the Presidents to 30-percent shooting (16 of 54), including a 2-of-13 performance from beyond the arc.
Senior guard and Fort Cherry graduate Zach Bellhy made the first basket of the second half, but Juniata followed with a 25-7 run over the next seven minutes to take control.
Bellhy led W&J (0-4) with 15 points and also added four rebounds. His brother, sophomore forward Nate Bellhy, had 11 points and 12 rebounds, while freshman guard Nick Martin contributed 10 points off the bench.
W&J outrebounded the Eagles, 45-36, and only committed 11 turnovers.
Marietta 90, Waynesburg 63: Waynesburg trailed by 12 at the half and never recovered en route to a 90-63 loss at Marietta in a non-conference game.
The Pioneers (2-1) made 58.7 percent of their shots (37 of 63) from the floor, including 70 percent (21 of 30) during the first half.
Thomas Ellis came off the bench to score a team-high 11 points for Waynesburg (1-2). Ellis also had a team-high five rebounds.
Casey Hope added 10 points, while EJ Coleman and Timmy Kaiser had eight apiece.
