The Jacksonville Jaguars had two huge setbacks in Oakland. They lost star running back Maurice Jones-Drew early and a 14-point lead late. How they handle both could determine whether the Jaguars (1-5) recover from the one of the worst starts in franchise history. Jones-Drew injured his left foot on the first play of Sunday’s 26-23 loss to the Raiders in overtime. He wasn’t able to play through the pain and spent the second half on crutches and wearing a protective boot.Coach Mike Mularkey said Monday Jones-Drew will be sidelined at least for Sunday’s game at Green Bay, maybe longer. “I was just disappointed that he didn’t get a chance to really show his stuff out there because I felt like that he was going to have a good game for us,” Mularkey said. Mularkey said the injury is serious enough that it could keep MJD sidelined for an extended period.Turners denies Chargers used Stickum: Coach Norv Turner said nobody from the San Diego Chargers used Stickum in a Monday night loss to the Denver Broncos Oct. 15 or in any other game.He also said it’s a towel, not a substance, being investigated by the NFL.Turner was reacting Monday to an investigation by the NFL into whether the Chargers used a banned sticky substance during a 35-24 loss to Peyton Manning and the Broncos in which San Diego blew a 24-0 halftime lead.”Nobody in this organization has used Stickum in any game,” the beleaguered coach said Monday. “The question involved a towel that has been used by this organization for over 10 years. It’s used by a lot of teams in this league. The towel is used to dry the balls, dry the gloves that the players wear and their arms. The league is looking into the towel. That’s about where it’s at.”Suggs activated by Ravens: Baltimore outside linebacker Terrell Suggs has been activated for Sunday’s game at Houston.Suggs, the league’s defensive player of the year in 2011, returned to practice this week for the first time since undergoing surgery in May to repair his torn right Achilles tendon. Suggs had a career-high 14 sacks and forced seven fumbles last season. The move comes as struggling Ravens’ defense is playing without star linebacker Ray Lewis (torn triceps) and cornerback Lardarius Webb (torn ACL), who were both placed on injured reserve.Vitt back with Saints: New Orleans interim coach Joe Vitt says his forced time away from New Orleans Saints was agony and that he found no way to fill the void.So once his six-game bounty-related suspension ended, Vitt did not wait an extra second to rejoin the team. He flew back with the Saints after their 35-28 win at Tampa Bay on Sunday. New Orleans has won two in a row under offensive line coach Aaron Kromer, but still has a long way to go to get back into playoff contention. First on Vitt’s agenda is fixing a defense that is last in the NFL in yards allowed, giving up 465.5 yards per game including 513 to Tampa Bay.New Orleans (2-4) plays at Denver on Sunday night.
