Morgan Creehan scored nine minutes into the match and the defense of defending state champion Peters Township made it stand up as the Indians defeated visiting Hampton 1-0 Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs. Creehan headed in a corner kick from Rachel Troscinski to give PT (18-1) the early lead. The Indians then unleashed a barrage of shots on defensive-minded Hampton (11-8-1) but could get only one of their more than 25 shots to find the back of the net. Against PT goalkeeper Carly Johns, Hampton managed only one scoring opportunit, that a long-range shot that landed on the top of the net. The win advances Peters Township to the semifinals Tuesday when it will play Gateway, which rallied to defeat Canon-McMillan, 2-1, in a match played at Baldwin.
