Solomon Chishko, a third-place finisher in the PIAA Class AAA wrestling championships last year for Canon-McMillan, suffered a fracutred elbow in the 145-pound finals of the Super32 Challenge at the Greensburg (N.C.) Coliseum over the weekend. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Chishko will be operated on Monday in Pittsburgh. “He has a bad elbow,” said Canon-McMillan head coach Chris Mary. “He’s going to be out for a good while. It was some type of fracture.” Mary said he thinks a return by the beginning of January is realistic for Chishko. “It was just like Connor (Schram) last year,” Mary said. Schram missed the first month of the season with back spasms. He returned in early January and won 25 straight matches before losing in the 120-pound finals to Godwyn Nyama of Brashear 3-1 in overtime. High school wrestling practice gets under way Nov. 16. The first scrimmage date allowed is Nov. 23 and the first competition date is Dec. 7. Chishko, a junior, injured the elbow against Grant Leeth of Missouri and was forced to default. Chishko compiled a 44-2 record last season for the Big Macs with both losses coming to Erie McDowell’s Steve Spearman. The first was in the finals of the PIAA Class AAA team tournament and the second, a 3-1 overtime decision, came in the semifinals of the individual tournament at 138 pounds. He played a major role in the Big Macs winning both team titles in Hershey last season and repeating as WPIAL team champions. Cody Wiercioch, a two-time PIAA champion for the Big Macs, also competed in the Super32 event and won the 170-pound title with a 5-3 decision over Brett Harner of Norristown. Other local competitors included A.C. Headlee of Waynesburg at 113; Brendan Howard of Jefferson-Morgan at 106; Jeff Miller of Trinity at 145 and Tanner Sutton of Chartiers-Houston at 152.
