McGuffey finishes strong, upsets SV

Brent Blacharczyk had 140 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries as McGuffey rallied from a 20-6 halftime deficit to beat playoff-bound Steel Valley, 29-20, in a Century Conference game. Nate Whipkey added 87 yards passing and a touchdown and another touchdown rushing for the Highlanders (3-5, 4-5). James Duchi added 104 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. DeAndre Pickens had 147 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown for Steel Valley (4-4, 4-5).

Santino Paris completed 10 of 22 passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns as Avella finished off its most successful season since 1994 with a 34-19 Tri-County South win over Bentworth. Paris threw two touchdown passes to Zachary Thompson – who also scored on a 60-yard punt return – and one to Walter Kopko for the Eagles (5-3, 6-3). Nicholas Kusich scored on a 60-yard interception return for Avella, which missed the playoffs by one game. Dante Sicchitano threw for 117 yards and a touchdown, while also running for another score, for Bentworth (1-7, 2-7). Ethan Kush also scored for the Bearcats.

Chartiers-Houston turned a 21-0 halftime lead into a rout with 21 points in the third quarter en rout to a 42-0 Black Hills Conference win over Fort Cherry. David Kincaid scored on a 60-yard punt return and a 52-yard run for the Bucs (4-5, 4-5). Joe Luisi and Jevone Hairston also scored on runs, while Alec Ferrari threw a TD pass to Miles Williamson, and Kaleb Susko added a touchdown pass to Garrett Vulcano for Chartiers-Houston. Zak Dysert had six catches for 97 yards for Fort Cherry (3-6, 3-6).

Josh Mundell had four touchdowns, while Brennan McMinn added two, as playoff-bound Carmichaels topped West Greene, 54-7, in a Tri-County South game. Mundell had 73 yards on nine carries, while McMinn added 92 yards on 12 carries for the Mikes (6-2, 7-2), the third-place finisher in the Tri-County South. Brandon Lawless completed 4 of 5 passes for 92 yards, while Tyler Aeschbacher returned an interception for 46 yards for a score. Dalton Wildman had 78 yards rushing and a touchdown on 11 carries for West Greene (3-5, 4-5).

Six different players scored to help Beth-Center roll to a 58-0 victory over Vincentian in a non-conference game. Gino Faieta tossed three touchdown passes and Cody Durant and Anthony Welsh each ran for two scores as the Bulldogs moved to 8-1 overall. BC captured the Class A Tri-County South Conference and will wait to see how high a seed the WPIAL gives it at Monday’s pairing meeting. Faieta hit Matt Riggle with a 38-yard touchdown toss, Anthony Gilpin caught one from 10 yards out and Jason Stay hauled one in that covered 53 yards. Cody Durant scored on a 24-yard run and 72-yard punt return. Welsh had a pair of 17-yard runs and Nico Brown rolled over from 34 yards for the final score of the game., Durant had 54 yards on 2 carries and Welsh had 45 on 3 and Nico Brown 55 on 5. Faieta completed 6 of 7 passes for 137 yards.

Jefferson-Morgan routed Geibel in what might have been the final football game for the Gators program, 70-0, in a Tri-County South Conference. Geibel has been playing with about 15 healthy players and were forced to forfeit the first two games of the season. Tyler Bowman ran for two touchdowns and eight players scored for the Rockets, who finished tied with Carmichaels and Frazier for second place in the conference. The Rockets will be No. 2 team, thanks to beating Frazier and Carmichaels. Dustin Conti’s lone carry went for a 72-yard touchdown, Nic Santoya had a 50-yard punt return and Bowman a 76-yard punt return for a touchdown. Nate Wolfe, Gerald Metz and Aaron Weaver each scored on touchdown. Weaver had a game-high 87 yards on three carries. Rece Hennamen completed 3 of 4 passes for 32 yards and a 25-yard TD to Santoya. The Rockets’ defense recorded two safeties.

Chavas Rawlins went of 1,000 yards passing and scored three times to help Monessen to a 52-10 victory over Carlynton and secure second place in the Class A Black Hills Conference. Rawlins went over from 51 yards out, returned a punt 74 yards and took an interception back 34 yards for the Greyhounds (8-1, 8-1). Rawlins completed 3 of 4 passes for 92 yards, giving him 1,119 for the season. Clintell Gillespie, Irvin Green and Justice Rawlins each scored a touchdown fro Monessen. Isaiah Canton rushed for 126 yards on 24 carries and scored a TD for the Cougars (1-8, 1-8).

Charleroi defeated Brownsville, 35-7, in an Interstate Conference game, Brentwood routed California, 61-19, in a Class A Black Hills Conference game, and Frazier shut out Mapletown, 43-0, in a Tri-County South Conference game. No information was provided to the Observer-Reporter on those games.
