Women’s soccer: W&J, Waynesburg fall in PAC semifinals

Both Washington & Jefferson and Waynesburg were eliminated Wednesday in the semifinals of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference tournament. W&J lost 2-1 to Grove City, and Waynesburg lost 5-0 to top-seeded Thomas More.Nicole Youngs-Stahl bounced in a long shot with 9:40 remaining to give second-seeded Grove City the win a match moved to Grove City High School’s Forker Field. Grove City (15-3-1) grabbed the early lead in the 11th minute when the Wolverines were awarded a penalty kick and Sam Weber snuck a shot past freshman goalkeeper Sarah Youngblood. W&J (10-8-1) tied the score 18 minutes later when Holly Shipley hit the net for her 16th goal of the season. The score remained that way until Youngs-Stahl’s goal that bounced over Youngblood’s head into the net. W&J was limited to one shot the rest of the way.A goal 28 minutes into the match was all that Thomas More (19-01) would need to beat Waynesburg (9-9-1) in Crestview Hills, Ky. The Saints tacked on four more goal and outshot the Yellow Jackets 22-5.
