WPIAL playoff games moved to artificial turf

It’s official: All 32 WPIAL first-round football playoff games will be played on artificial turf.Twelve games, including five involving local teams, were scheduled to be played Friday night on grass fields. However, all 12 home teams have informed the WPIAL that they have moved the games to fields that have artificial turf. Four of the games were switched Tuesday, and eight more changed sites Wednesday. All of the games with new sites are in Class AA or Class A.Washington had announced Tuesday that’s its Class AA game against Shady Side Academy will be played at Washington & Jefferson’s Cameron Stadium.On Wednesday, Beth-Center, Jefferson-Morgan, Carmichaels and Monessen – each involved in the Class A playoffs – were among those with site changes. Beth-Center will play Union at California High School; Jefferson-Morgan will face Neshannock at Waynesburg High School; Monessen will play Apollo-Ridge at Charleroi; and Carmichaels’ game against Sto-Rox has been switched to North Hills.All games will be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
