College baseball: Cal, W&J complete sweeps

California University completed a series sweep of Clarion, defeating the Golden Eagles 9-2 and 4-1 Saturday in a PSAC West Division doubleheader at Consol Energy Park.
The wins push Cal’s records to 7-1 in the West and 20-7 overall. Clarion is 1-11, 1-21.
Matt Peters went 4-for-4, Giovanni Morales was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Kyle Petty drove in a season-high four runs for Cal in the opener. Kyle Thomas was the winning pitcher.
Mick Fennell tossed a seven-hit complete game in the nightcap, striking out seven. Peters went 3-for-3 to cap a 7-for-7 day that included one triple and two doubles.
• Washington & Jefferson had 24 hits and was aided by six Grove City errors as the Presidents swept a PAC doubleheader from the Wolverines, 11-4 and 14-2, at Ross Memorial Park.
Josh Staniscia led the W&J outburst with four hits, four RBI and a home run. Kyle McLain also drove in four runs and D.J. Michalski scored five times and had three RBI.
Mike Vizzini was the winning pitcher in the opener. Tyler Dean gave up one run over six innings in the second game.
