College softball: Vulcans win 2 at Bloomsburg

California, ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II, won two more games Saturday, sweeping host Bloomsburg 2-0 in eight innings and 8-1.
The Vulcans improved to 19-1, while Bloomsburg, the preseason favorite to win the PSAC’s Central Division, fell to 17-7.
Cal’s Alex Sagl pitched a three-hit shutout and did not walk a batter in the opener. The Vulcans won the game with a run-scoring single by Natalya Smarra and an RBI-triple by Brenna Morris.
Hope Spancake improved her pitching record to 8-0 with a five-hitter in the second game. Smarra and Shelby Lia hit home runs and Shelby Heyd drove in two runs.
• Peters Township graduate Kelsey Cunningham had five hits over two games as Washington & Jefferson swept a PAC doubleheader from Thomas More, 8-5 and 10-5.
Bethany Shepherd earned a save in Game 1 for the Presidents (3-3, 13-9), before picking up the win in the nightcap.
Emily Watson earned the win in the opener. Sadie Marak and D.J. Ufolla had homers in the second game for W&J.
