Baseball: Wash High stops Fort Cherry

Jordan Allen struck out nine and allowed three hits to push Washington to a 4-1 victory over Fort Cherry in a section 2-AA game.

Jesse Spara had a two-run single in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach for Wash High (5-0, 6-1). Jordan Mooney doubled.

Kyle Witzberger struck out seven but walked eight and knocked in the only run for the Rangers (4-3, 4-4).

• Jake Horew went 2-for-4 with a triple to lead Chartiers-Valley to an 8-0 win over McGuffey in Section 3-AAA. The Colts are 8-1 overall, 3-0 in the section. McGuffey fell to 1-7 and 0-2. No other information was available.

• Ty Cole went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI to drive Carmichaels to a 19-4 victory over West Greene in a Section 1-A game.

Tommy Shoaf and Cory Fuller each hit a double for the Mikes (3-0, 6-1). Donnie White doubled in a run for West Greene (0-3, 1-5).

• Miles Williamson went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI to lead Chartiers-Houston to a 14-0 victory over Charleroi in a Section 2-AA game.

Dylan Pounds tripled for the Bucs (3-3, 5-5).

Charleroi fell to 1-8, 0-5 in the section.

• Bethel Park pounded out 17 hits and scored eight runs in the fifth inning en route to a 17-4 win at Canon-McMillan. Logan Corrigan, Ryan Dodson and David Lemley had doubles for Bethel Park (2-2, 9-2), and Corey Lazor added a triple.

Jared Beach had a double for Canon-McMillan, which fell to 2-2, 4-6.

• Don McWreath tossed a four-hitter with six strikeouts as Trinity topped Waynesburg, 7-2, in a Section 3-AAA game.

Zach Kenny homered, Nick Riotto tripled and Ryan Moon, Cory Humphreys, Connor Fritz and Zach Cain each had a double for the Hillers (2-2, 4-4).

Colton Lippencott took the loss for Waynesburg (1-2, 1-5).

• Matt Loether’s bases-loaded double in the bottom of the fifth lifted Peters Township to a 5-3 Section 5-AAAA win over Upper St. Clair.

Chris Wastchak got the victory for the Indians (3-1, 8-2), while Phil Zeffiro tripled.

Ian Frazier doubled for USC (0-3, 4-5), while Tim Leckenby took the loss.

• Adam Bell had a based-loaded single in the top of the seventh to score a run and give Bentworth a 3-2 Section 2-AA win over Burgettstown.

Jake Rothka picked up the win for the Bearcats (3-3, 4-3).

Mike Smith was a hard-luck loser, allowing just three hits with 11 strikeouts, though he did walk six. John Dugas and Smith doubled for Burgettstown (1-4, 2-4).

• Winning pitcher Tyler Spohn also doubled as Brownsville defeated Beth-Center, 6-3, in a Section 2-AA game.

Cole Novotny also doubled for Brownsville (3-2, 6-3).

Lucas Zellie took the loss for Beth-Center (2-3, 2-4).

• Aaron Crevisky tripled and Ronnie Baron doubled to lead California to a 12-4 Section 1-A win over Avella.

Josh Luko scattered seven hits to get the win for the Trojans (3-0, 9-2).

Dan Hodgdon took the loss for Avella (1-2, 5-2).
