Softball: Burns outduels Bennington in Mikes’ win

Erica Burns tossed eight shutout innings, allowing just one run and striking out 14 to send Carmichaels to a 1-0 victory over West Greene in a Section 2-A game.

Carmichaels (7-0, 11-1) won the game when Morgan Berardi drove in Mia Virgili with a Sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Bailey Bennington struck out 15 and allowed only four hits for West Greene (4-3, 7-3) in this pitcher’s duel.

• Abby McCartney and Kirsten Rush each hit a home run to power Canon-McMillan to a 10-0 victory over Upper St. Clair in a five-inning Section 5-AAAA game.

McCartney hit a three-run blast and Rush had a two-run home run for CM (6-0, 6-1). Rush also doubled and had four RBI in the game. Linda Rush doubled. Alayna Astuto allowed only a double by Karsen Rooney. Upper St. Clair is 0-6 overall and in section.

• Marlie Mounts triple and scored three times to help McGuffey overwhelm Beth-Center, 13-1, in a Section 2-AA game.

Mikayla Schultz and Sarah Kleinhans each had a triple for the Highlanders.

Chelsea Snyder doubled and Tori Kuntz had an RBI-single for Beth-Center (1-6, 1-7).

• Brooke Beck went 4-for-4 with five RBI as Trinity took total control of Section 2-AAA with an 11-4 win over second-place Montour.

Brianna Thomas homered and Ashley Winkelvoss doubled for the Hillers (7-0, 7-0). Tiffany Clark picked up the win.

Alyssa McMurtie homered for Montour (5-2, 7-4), while Stacey Capps and Kristen Trohaudh doubled.
