Softball: Vulcans run winning streak to 11

California, ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division II, belted six home runs Thursday during a doubleheader sweep of host Edinboro, 9-8 and 18-0, in PSAC West Division play.
Cal (9-1, 25-1), the top-ranked team in the NCAA Atlantic Region rankings, extended its winning streak to 11. Edinboro is 3-5, 6-17.
In the opener, the Vulcans tied the score at 8-8 in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Shelby Heyd, who delivered a game-winning infield single one inning later.
Cal’s Breanna Morris went 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
The Vulcans smacked four home runs in the second game and Lindsay Reicoff and Natalya Smarra combined to drive in 11 runs. Reicoff was 3-for-4 with six RBI and a grans slam, and Smarra was 3-for-4 with five RBI.
Winning pitcher Haley Bashada threw a three-hit shutout.
• Sadie Marak hit a two-run double as Washington & Jefferson rallied to beat Grove City 2-1 in the opening game of a PAC doubleheader at Brooks Park. Grove City won the nightcap 7-6.
W&J pitcher Madison Rotto threw a five-hitter and allowed only an unearned run in the opener. The Presidents (8-4, 19-11) trailed 1-0 before Marak’s hit in the fifth drove in Kelsey Cunningham and Stephanie Zur.
W&J led 6-1 in the second game before Grove City (2-10, 5-17) rallied.
