University of Washington recruit Taran Alvelo struck out 18, didn’t walk a batter, went 5-for-5 and hit two home runs to hand Trinity its first loss, as Bloom-Carroll (Ohio) beat the Hillers, 13-3, Friday at the Wendy’s Classic in Ashland, Ohio.

Bloom-Carroll broke a tie with 10 runs over the sixth and seventh innings.

Olivia Gray had two doubles for Trinity (9-1), and Hali Justice added one. But Bloom-Carroll (12-0) had 18 hits, seven of them for extra bases.

• Sarah Opladen hit a home run, doubled and drove in two runs as Canfield (Ohio) held off McGuffey 3-2 in the Wendy’s Classic.

Canfield overcame a 1-0 deficit by scoring all its runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

McGuffey (9-2), which had its five-game winning streak snapped, pulled to within 3-2 with a run in the sixth, then put a runner on third base in the seventh but was unable to push across the tying run.

Rachel Kleinhans had a double for McGuffey, which was held to three hits. The Highlanders’ Cassie Weiss threw a six-hitter. She walked six and did not issue a walk.
