Bentworth knocks off Washington, 11-3, in Section 2-AA

Five players had multiple hits and Bentworth upset Washington, 11-3, in Section 2-AA. Ben Carlisle, Jake Rothka, Trevor Wood, Justin Wiltrout and Zack Atkinson all collected two hits, with Atkinson notching a triple and driving in two. Adam Bell gave up four hits in seven innings while striking out six and walking three for the win. Andy Lutes also drove in a pair of runs for Bentworth, which improved 7-3, 8-3.

Jordan Allen tripled but took the loss for Washington (8-2, 9-3), which has lost two of three.

• Koltan Kobrys went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI, as Fort Cherry scored four runs in the top of the seventh for a 7-5 win at Charleroi in Section 2-AA. Kyle Witzberger was 2-for-3 with two RBI for Fort Cherry, which improved to 6-4, 6-7. Winning pitcher Alex Babirad added a two-run single in the decisive seventh.

Matt Carcella was 3-for-4 with two RBI for Charleroi, which fell to 0-10, 1-14.

• Shane Roebuck had three hits – a single, double and a triple – and Brownsville took advantage of 10 Burgettstown walks during an 8-5 win in eight innings for the Falcons in Section 2-AA. Kurt Kowalski drove in three runs and Sam Hockenberry had four singles, but Burgettstown dropped to 3-7, 4-7.

Noah Saxon had three singles for Brownsville (6-4, 9-4).

• Four players had doubles and two had multiple hits, as Chartiers-Houston topped Beth-Center, 11-8, in Section 2-AA. Kaleb Susko, Tyler Day, Nick Grady and Miles Williamson all had doubles. Alec Ferrari and Jake Jones each had two hits for Chartiers-Houston (6-4, 8-6). Dylan Pounds earned the win after striking out four over the final four innings.

C.J. Novak homered for Beth-Center (4-6, 4-7). Lane Ziker had two hits, and Josh Miller added a double.

• Frank Fortunato and winning pitcher Kevin Forrester each drove in runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure Canon-McMillan’s 5-4 victory over Upper St. Clair in a Section 5-AAAA game. The Big Macs are in a three-way tie for first place in the section with Mt. Lebanon and Bethel Park.

Fortunato doubled in Luke Blanock and Forrester singled in Fortunato for CM (5-2, 8-6). Forrester went 3-for-4 and Fortunato 2-for-5.

Ben Haus doubled for USC (1-6, 7-7).

• Dom Cage tripled, hit a two-run home run and drove in four to key Jefferson-Morgan’s 14-0 win over West Greene in a Section 1-A game.

Travis Taylor also tripled for J-M (5-2, 7-3) and Tyler Bowman, Logan Bowman and Austin Clark each hit a double. Logan Bowman struck out eight and did not walk a batter. He gave up one hit, single in the fourth by Logan Vilet.

• California scored a combined five runs over the fourth and fifth innings to take a 10-2 victory from Mapletown in a Section 1-A game.

Aaron Previsky tripled for Cal (4-2, 10-4). Mike Luketich, Jake Columbus, Ron Baron and Joe DeFranco each had a double.

Taylor Kennison had a double and Jon Dotts an RBI single for Mapletown (0-6, 2-8).

• Colton Henry had an inside-the-park home run to contribute to Carmichaels’ 8-1 victory over Avella in a Section 1-A game.

Tyler Cole doubled and drove in two runs for the Mikes (7-0, 10-2), who clinched a playoff berth with the win. Justin Newman doubled. Josh Mundell struck out 11 and walked two.

Santino Paris had a triple for Avella (3-4, 7-4).

• Peters Township scored all its runs in the first inning to take a 5-3 victory from Brashear in a Section 4-AAAA game.

Tyler Schmidt had a three-run triple for the Indians (4-3, 10-4). Winning pitcher Chris Wastchak had a double.

Brashear fell to 1-6 in the section.
