The Steelers have a pretty good idea of who their five starting offensive linemen will be. They also know who their top two backups are: John Malecki and Kelvin Beachum.
Beyond that, however, they have a lot of question marks on the offensive line.
That’s why after picking up nine new players in the draft, the Steelers added five offensive linemen as undrafted rookie free agents, the best being guard Nik Embernate of San Diego State. Also signed at that position were offensive tackles Mike Farrell of Penn State and Mike Golic Jr. of Notre Dame, guard Chris Hubbard of UAB and center Ivory Wade of Baylor.
Golic is the son of former NFL player and radio show host Mike Golic Sr.
Also signed by the Steelers were defensive ends Brian Arnfelt of Northwestern and Cordian Hagans of Louisiana-Lafayette, linebacker Alex Baxter of Northern Illinois, wide receivers Reggie Dunn of Utah and J.D. Woods of West Virginia, defensive tackle Athony Rashad White of Michigan State, defensive tackle Omar Hunter of Florida, running back Curtis McNeal of USC and long snapper Luke Ingram of Hawaii.
Canon-McMillan graduate D.J. Michalski and Josh Staniscia combined to drive in seven runs as Washington & Jefferson defeated LaRoche, 10-8, Sunday in a men’s non-conference college baseball game.
Michalski had three hits and three RBI, while Staniscia had three hits and drove in four runs for the Presidents (21-11).
Ringgold graduate Corey Young earned the win for W&J, while Mike Vizzini had the save.
Darryl Robinson had three hits and four RBI for LaRoche.
Top-seeded California earned a 5-0 victory against fourth-seeded Mercyhurst at Glen Creek Tennis Club on Sunday morning in the second round of the women’s tennis NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament.
With the win, California extended its win streak to seven matches and improves to 16-9 overall. The victory also advances the Vulcans to the Round of 16 for the seventh consecutive year. The Vulcans will face the winner of Queens (N.Y.)-Concordia (N.Y.) in Surprise, Ariz., May 8.
The Vulcans swept doubles play for the seventh-consecutive match and 11th time this year, all team victories. Sophomore Ramona Czakon and freshman Alexandra Borgenhoff opened doubles play with an 8-1 victory at the second position against Rebecca Haener and Courtney Thompson. In a meeting of two All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West doubles teams, junior Lucie Sipkova and sophomore Lucie Rey extended their win streak to 10 matches following an 8-3 win against Sarah Baich and Caroline Bristol at the first slot. Senior Jade Pondicas and freshman Maxime Colen completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory at third doubles against Katelyn Caniford and Taylor Wedlake.
