Tom Brady is back at practice one day after hurting his knee.
The New England Patriots quarterback is taking part in the third day of joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It isn’t known if he’ll play tonight when the teams meet in an exhibition game.
Brady jogged from sideline to sideline with his teammates at the start of practice.
He sprained his left knee about midway through Wednesday’s practice when Tampa Bay defensive end Adrian Clayborn knocked New England left tackle Nate Solder into him. Brady fell down and left the field briefly. He returned for several more plays before walking off under his own power.
In his absence, Ryan Mallett played with the first offensive unit and Tim Tebow quarterbacked the second team.
Miller misses final day of Broncos training camp: All-Pro linebacker Von Miller missed the final day of the Denver Broncos’ training camp Thursday to address his looming suspension for violating the NFL’s drug-abuse policy.
ESPN reported midway through practice, however, that Miller’s appeals hearing had been postponed.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told the Associated Press that the league was not at liberty to comment on the matter.
Miller has 30 sacks in his first two NFL seasons and a four-game suspension would leave a gaping hole in Denver’s defense.
Miller was also arrested Sunday at a firearms shop near the Broncos’ practice facility on a warrant for failing to appear in court on Dec. 31 for an October traffic stop in which he was charged with careless driving and not having a license or proof of insurance.
Jaguars stick with QB Gabbert as starter vs. Jets: Blaine Gabbert is getting another preseason start for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Coach Gus Bradley named Gabbert the starter Thursday, two days before the Jaguars play at the New York Jets.
Gabbert played the first four series in the team’s exhibition opener against Miami, completing 5 of 10 passes for 19 yards. He had two passes dropped and another one go off a fullback’s hands for an interception.
Chad Henne, who got some work with the first-team offense against the Dolphins, completed 8 of 11 passes for 87 yards.
The Jaguars have rotated quarterbacks throughout training camp, giving each work with the starters while trying to figure out who will win the job. Many believe it will be Gabbert, who’s younger, more mobile and coming off an injury-shortened second season.
Colts to hold out some injured players at Giants: Pro Bowl safety LaRon Landry is likely to sit out Sunday’s game against the New York Giants because of a knee injury.
He has missed more than a week of practice, and Colts coach Chuck Pagano said Thursday he won’t rush Landry back for a preseason game — if he can’t practice Thursday or Friday. Pagano still expects Landry to be ready for the season-opener against Oakland.
Pagano also said linebacker Pat Angerer (right foot) and running back Ahmad Bradshaw (right foot) would not play despite being activated from the physically unable to perform list earlier this week. Though the rest of the injury list is still being compiled, rookie offensive linemen Khaled Holmes (right ankle) and Hugh Thornton (right ankle) are not expected to play.
Sanchez to start: Mark Sanchez will start at quarterback for the New York Jets in their preseason home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night.
The Jets announced the decision Thursday, a day after coach Rex Ryan said rookie Geno Smith had a “brutal” practice in what was his “worst day” of training camp. Smith is also dealing with a sprained right ankle.
Sanchez started the preseason opener at Detroit last Friday. Ryan says the plan against the Jaguars is not necessarily an indication of which quarterback leads in the tightly contested competition.
Sanchez has had a solid week of practices, while Smith threw four interceptions Wednesday, including three in 11-on-11 team drills.
The Jets break camp at SUNY Cortland on Thursday.
