Maryland and Duke will visit the Peterson Events Center during Pittsburgh’s first season in the ACC this winter.

The school’s 2013-14 schedule, released Thursday, includes 18 home games. The Panthers, who moved from the Big East to the ACC last month, begin play in their new conference home on Jan. 4 at N.C. State.

The Terrapins then visit The Pete two days later for Pitt’s conference home opener. Perennial ACC power Duke plays in Pittsburgh Jan. 27. Other home conference games include Wake Forest, Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Syracuse.

After being forced to pull out of a fight earlier this month due to a training injury, Waynesburg High School graduate Josh Koscheck is ready to get back in the Octogon.

Koscheck announced on his Twitter feed Thursday night that he will now fight welterweight Tyron Woodley Nov. 16 at the MGM Grand Arena as part of the card for UFC 167.

The California University women’s soccer team was chosen to finish third in the preseason Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference poll.

After advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament last year, West Chester was selected the preseason favorite after receiving nine first-place votes. Defending-league champion Slippery Rock was picked second and garnered seven first-place nods. Cal U, Gannon, and Kutztown rounded out the top five in the preseason pol, while Kutztown, Edinboro, East Stroudsburg, IUP, Shippensburg and Bloomsburg completed the top 10.

The Vulcans claimed the third spot after finishing last season with a league-best 11 conference wins en route to a 16-5-1 overall record.
