The WPIAL baseball championships are staying in Washington.

The WPIAL and Washington Wild Things announced Friday that a three-year contract extension has been reached to play the four championship games at Consol Energy Park through the 2017 season. The WPIAL has held its baseball championship games in Washington since 2005.

“We are extremely pleased with the Washington Wild Things’ facility. To me, it’s the second-nicest in the area, with PNC Park, obviously, being the first,” WPIAL executive director Tim O’Malley said. “We appreciate the efforts made by Wayne Herrod (Wild Things special events manager) and the ability for him and his staff to work with the WPIAL to easily schedule our playoff dates. We couldn’t be more excited to keep playing our championship games at such a nice venue.”

The 2014 finals will be played May 27 and 28.
