O’FALLON, Mo. – Phil Wunderlich scored from second base on a throwing error by Washington pitcher Phil Butler in the bottom of the 13th inning Friday night and the River City Rascals defeated the Wild Things 10-9.

The loss snapped Washington’s four-game winning streak.

The Wild Things erased an early seven-run deficit and tied the score at 9-9 by scoring three times in the eighth inning.

Wunderlich led off the 13th with a single and moved to second base on a single by Danny Canela. Will Block then put down a sacrifice bunt that was fielded by Butler (1-1), whose throw to third base was errant, allowing Wunderlich to score the game-winner.

Winning pitcher Jon Levin (1-1) pitched the top of the 13th inning. Five Washington relievers had combined pitch 7 1/3 innings and allow only one run until the 13th.

River City led 7-0 after two innings against Washington starter Gary Lee, but the Wild Things pulled to within 7-6 in the fourth. The Wild Things finally tied the score in the eighth when Shain Stoner hit a two-run double and scored on A.J. Nunziato’s single.

Nunziato was 3-for-6 with three RBI, Mark Samuelson hit a three-run homer and Stewart Ijames was 3-for-6 with a double for the Wild Things.

Pitcher Casey Barnes, who was traded from Washington to River City in the offseason, started for the Rascals and gave up six runs in 3 2/3 innings.
