Senior Josh Etzel wrestled to four victories and earned the 165-pound championship Saturday to lead Washington & Jefferson at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational.

W&J sent two wrestlers to the 165-pound finals as freshman Sonnieboy Blanco won four matches before losing an 11-3 decision to Etzel.

W&J placed ninth of 11 teams with 61 points. John Carroll won the tournament with 140.

Etzel improved his season record to 10-2. He earned a major decision (11-3) over Alfred’s Konnor Kremer before pinning Torin Zontrell of WPI in 2:04. In the semifinals, Etzel edged John Carroll’s Tom McNulty, 4-3.

Etzel has 78 career victories which ties him with Tony Dietrich (1994-97) for eighth place on the W&J’s all-time list.

Junior Brian Haney, a South Fayette graduate, placed fourth in the 174-pound bracket by posting a 3-2 record. Senior David Dibenedetto also reached the 174-pound semifinals before placing fifth.
