Peters Township tops Mt. Lebanon in section opener

Tim Swoope had 11 points, including three three-point field goals, to help Peters Township stop Mt. Lebanon, 41-36, in a Section 4-AAAA game.

Peters Township (1-0, 2-2) led 23-18 at halftime and matched Mt. Lebanon basket for basket in the second half.

John David was high scorer for Mt. Lebanon (0-1, 1-3) with 16.

Upper St. Clair 53, Trinity 40: Three players scored in double figures to lead Upper St. Clair past Trinity, 53-40, in a Section 4-AAAA game.

J.J. Conn led USC (1-0, 3-1) with 14 points. Zack Staley had 12 and Conor Gallagher added 10.

Nick Moretti scored a game-high 21 for the Hillers (0-1, 12-2), who trailed 27-17 at halftime.

Cornell 73, Burgetstown 55: Dane Jackson scored a game-high 34 points to lead Cornell past Burgettstown, 73-55, in a non-section game.

Kevin Korzen added 17 for Cornell (3-1), which trailed 8-0 early and outscored Burgettstown, 63-36 over the final three quarters.

Hunter Lecker led the Blue Devils (1-4) with 14 points. Logan Treibsch added 12 and Cole LaRocka and Tylar Lynch 11 apiece.

Charleroi 71, Bentworth 31: Matt Indorante scored 23 points to lead Charleroi to a 71-31 victory over Bentworth in a Section 5-AA game.

Evan Anderson chipped in 11 points and Dakota Moore had 10 for the Cougars (1-0, 1-2).

Jake Crockett and T.J. Kurutz each scored six points to pace Bentworth (0-1, 0-2).

Wilkinsburg 75, McGuffey 62: D’Shawn Adair tossed in a game-high 30 points to power Wilkinsburg past McGuffey, 75-62, in a non-section game.

Isaiah Tete added 18 points for Wilkinsburg (1-3) and Koran Fleming had 11.

Damian McCloskey led the Highlanders (1-3) with 23 points and Shaun Sanders scored 16.

Brownsville 73, West Greene 50: Cole Novotney scored 15 points to help Brownsville take a 73-50 victory from West Greene in a Section 5-AA game.

Daquan Woods had 13 points and DeShauntae Bell 10 for the Falcons.

Kolton Rush scored a game-high 21 points for the Pioneers (0-1, 2-2).

Seton-La Salle 82, Chartiers-Houston 56: Ryan Norkus scored 24 points to send Seton-La Salle past Chartiers-Houston, 82-56 in a Section 4-AA game.

Levi masuga added 18 for the Rebels (1-0, 3-0).

Miles Williamson led the Bucs (0-1, 3-1) with 16 points. Kodie hanley tossed in 14.

Bethel Park 60, Canon-McMillan 49: Bethel Park junior Joe Mascaro scored 15 points and dominated defensively as the Blackhawks defeated Canon-McMillan, 60-49, in the Section 4-AAAA opener.

The Blackhawks started quickly, leading 25-9 after the first quarter and two Bethel Park players added double-digit points. The Big Macs were led by Alex Hammers, who scored 20 points.

Washington 58, Bishop Canevin 47: Washington’s DeQuay Isbell scored 16 points in the second half and played well defensively as the Prexies defeated Bishop Canevin, 58-47, in a Section 4-AA game.

The Prexies (1-0, 4-0) trailed 28-25 at halftime, but a second-half burst saw the Prexies outscore BC 44-30 secure the win.

Senior guard Dupree Jenkins added 11 points for Wash High.

Fort Cherry 58, Brentwood 43: Three players scored in double figures for Fort Cherry as the Rangers defeated Brentwood, 58-43, in a Section 4-AA matchup.

Senior guard Sean Darragh led the Rangers (1-0, 1-3) with 16 points, while senior forward Zak Dysert added 15. Though Fort Cherry missed seven free throws, a strong defensive effort led the Rangers to open section play with a win.

Beth-Center 55, Frazier 44: Beth-Center’s Adam Walters scored 19 points and the Bulldogs outscored Frazier, 25-5, in the fourth quarter to win the Section 5-AA opener, 55-44.

Luke Hess added 13 for Beth-Center (1-0, 1-2).

Ten missed free throws cost the Commodores. Frazier’s Caleb Cox scored 17 and Roger Cline finished with 12.

Jefferson-Morgan 47, Winchester Thurston 39: Three players scored in double figures to pace Jefferson-Morgan to a 47-39 victory over Winchester Thurston in a non-section game.

Nikki Venick led the way for J-M (3-1) with 14 points. Erin Confortini chipped in with 13 and Kayla Yorko added 12.

Winchester Thurston fell to 1-2.

Waynesburg 53, Carmichaels 41: A balanced scoring attack paced Waynesburg to a 53-41 non-section win over Carmicheals.

Lindsay Huhn paced the Raiders (1-3) with 16 points. Celine Monica added 13 and Jackie Tharp 11.

Molly Roberts scored 10 points for the Mikes (2-3).

Avella 46, Burgettstown 31: Alexandria Barr tossed in 10 points to key Avella’s 46-31 victory over Burgettstown in a non-section game.

Avella (3-0) used a 10-5 run in the final eight minutes to pull away.

Caley Ritts scored 14 points for Burgettstown (0-3).
