Hammers leads 4th-quarter rally in C-M win

Alex Hammers scored 14 of his team-high 22 points during a 31-point fourth quarter for Canon-McMillan that resulted in a 70-60 victory over Baldwin in Section 4-AAAA Tuesday night.

Canon-Mac (1-1, 2-2) trailed 46-39 heading into the final eight minutes and outscored the Highlanders, 31-14.

Britton Beachy scored 18 points and Sam Bohn 14 for the Big Macs.

Jon DeGregorio scored 23 points to pace Baldwin (1-1, 1-5). Arnes Bajgora contributed 13 points.

Burgettstown 51, Bishop Canevin 47: Three players hit for double figures to lead Burgettstown to a 51-47 victory over Bishop Canevin in a Section 4-AA game.

Logan Triebsch led the way with 14 for the Blue Devils (1-0, 2-4), who led 28-25 at halftime. Ryan Christy and Hunter Leckner each chipped in with 13.

Mitch Tauffer led Bishop Canevin (0-2, 0-4) with 15 points.

Montour 67, McGuffey 39: Dustin Sleva scored a game-high 22 points to send Montour to a 67-39 victory over McGuffey in a Section 5-AAA game.

Montour moved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the section with the win.

Zach Maxwell had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Highlanders (0-1, 1-4), who trailed 25-7 after one quarter and 40-17 at halftime.

Charleroi 48, Beth-Center 24: Charleroi held Beth-Center to 12 points over the final three quarters to take a 48-24 victory in a Section 5-AA game.

Dakota Moorer led the Cougars (2-0, 2-2) with 12 points and Matt Indorante and Ryan Konek each chipped in with 10.

Luke Hess and Ryan Beyer scored eight apiece for B-C (1-1, 2-3).

Bentworth 73, West Greene 51: Bentworth outscored West Greene 26-6 in the second quarter on the way to a 73-51 victory in a Section 5-AA game.

Angelo Rios-Lopes led the Bearcats (1-0, 1-2) with 23 points. Damon Petrola-Bakos contriubted 16 points and Zach Robker 10.

Craig Weaver sparked the attack for West Greene (0-2, 2-3) with 15 points and Craig Weaver tossed in 12.

Carrick 86, Avella 33: Carrick displayed its outstanding athleticism in an 86-44 non-section victory over Avella on the road.

The Raiders (3-2) were led by two players who scored in double-digits. Junior Marcus Jones finished with 11 points and junior Tyler Quinten added 13. The Eagles trailed by 18 points at halftime and were outscored by 24 points in the third quarter.

Avella (1-4) was led by Walt Kopko’s nine points.

Brownsville 79, Jefferson-Morgan 65: The Novotney brothers, Cole and Ryan, combined for 45 points as Brownsville defeated Jefferson-Morgan, 79-65, in a Section 5-AA game.

Cole Novotney finished with 31 points and Ryan added 14 for the Falcons (2-0, 3-2). Brownsville built on a nine-point halftime lead to defeat the section rivals.

The Rockets were led by Rece Henneman, who finished with 34 points.

Moon 61, Peters Township 42: Peters Township failed to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit as the Indians lost a Section 4-AAAA matchup to Moon, 61-42.

The Indians (1-1, 2-3) had one double-digit scorer, J.C. Brush, who finished with 10 points.

Tyler Krenshaw’s 12 points led Moon (1-1, 2-3), which outscored Peters Township 36-26 in the second half.

Girls Results

Elizabeth Forward 55, South Fayette 46: A balanced scoring attack sent Elizabeth Forward past South Fayette, 55-46, in a nonsection game.

Natalie Fekula scored 13 points, Kylie Owoc 12 and Allison Pastore 11 for EF.

Mikayla Fetchet led all scorers with 20 points and Lauren Crites tossed in 15 for the Lions (1-3).

Mapletown 56, Western Beaver 53: Maples’ Hannah Dingle caught an inbounds pass with time running out and hit a three-pointer from the top of the key with 2.9 seconds left to defeat Western Beaver, 56-53.

Mapletown (1-4) was led by Abby Shipley, who scored 15 points, and Dingle, who finished with 13.

Western Beaver overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to almost upset the Maples on the road. The Golden Beavers were led by Alana Heinman’s 14 points.

Geibel 59, Beth-Center 54: Geibel led by nine points at halftime and Carly Judy scored 22 points as the Gators defeated Beth-Center, 59-54, in a nonsection game.

The Gators (1-2) used a strong first quarter to lead by eight points and continued to pressure the Bulldogs. Two other players scored in double-figures for Geibel: Haley Hutchinson with 10 and Riley Bocan with 14.

Beth-Center (0-1, 2-3) trailed by just three points after outscoring the Gators 17-11 but Geibel held on for its first win of the season.

The Bulldogs were led by Anna Bartman, who scored 31 points, and Ali Trippy, who finished with 13.

California 47, Clairton 10: Freshman Kylie Huffman scored 30 points and recorded 14 rebounds as California defeated Calirton, 47-10, in a nonsection matchup.

California (3-2) jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first half as Huffman hit three shots from behind the arc and added six blocks on the defensive end. Brooke Clements added nine points for the Trojans.

Clairton (0-5) was led by Maya Pettiford, who finished with seven points.

Trinity 59, Canon-McMillan 49: Mary Dunn scored 18 points to lead Trinity past Canon-McMillan, 59-49, in a nonsection matchup.

The Hillers (5-0) trailed by one point at halftime before building a second-half lead. Dunn led Trinity in scoring while Katie Korpus added 10 points.

The Big Macs (1-4) were led by Danielle Parker’s 16 points and dropped their fourth straight game.
