Damian McCloskey scored a team-high 14 points and McGuffey shut down host Yough over the middle two quarters to rally for a 53-47 victory in a non-section game Wednesday.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for McGuffey (2-4), which trailed 17-10 after one quarter. The Highlanders then outscored Yough 13-2 in the second quarter to take a 23-19 lead at halftime. McGuffey padded its advantage to 35-28 after three quarters, and freshman Marcus Czulewicz helped keep the Highlanders in the lead by going 6-for-6 at the free-throw line over the final three minutes.

Travis McCann scored 13 points for McGuffey and Chris Laick had 11. Josh Sterner scored a game-high 26 points for Yough (1-6) and Alex Bowman had 12, but the rest of the Cougars combined for only nine points.

Carmichaels 52, Jefferson-Morgan 37: Three players scored in double-figures for Carmichaels as the Mikes defeated Jefferson-Morgan, 52-37, in a non-section game.

Carmichaels (5-0) was led by three seniors. Brandon Lawless and Ty Aeschbacher scored 15 points, while Justin Newman added 12 for the Mikes.

Jefferson-Morgan was led in scoring by Rece Henneman’s 14 points. The Rockets (2-5) failed to overcome a 16-point halftime deficit and were outscored in the fourth quarter,6-5.

South Allegheny 52, Bentworth 28: South Allegheny’s Abby Dranko scored 26 points as the Gladiators defeated Bentworth, 52-28, in a non-section game.

The Bearcats (1-5) did not reach double-digit point totals in a quarter Wednesday night and South Allegheny (1-5) took a 23-12 lead at halftime. The Gladiators then outscored the Bearcats 29-16 in the second half.

Bentworth was led in scoring by Morgan Vickless, who finished with eight points.

Jeannette 46, Monessen 25: Monique Redman scored 18 points for Jeannette and the Jayhawks capitalized on a 20-9 lead at halftime to defeat Monessen, 25-46, in a non-section game.

Monessen (0-3) was led by Mariha Johnson, who scored nine points and hit two three-point shots. The Greyhounds did not eclipse double-digit points in a single quarter as the young Monessen squad dropped its third straight game ot start the season.

Hundred (W.Va.) 48, Mapletown 30: Lindsay Jones scored 17 points and Hundred (W.Va.) dominated the middle quarters to defeat visiting Mapletown 48-30.

Hundred outscored the Maples 31-13 over the second and third quarters. Mapletown had snapped a 34-game losing streak Tuesday night with a victory over Western Beaver and was tied with the Hornets after one quarter.

Paige Shriver scored 11 points for Hundred. Emily Wagner paced Mapletown with 10 points.
