Freshmen deliver for Trinity

Two freshmen scored in double digits to lead Trinity to a fourth-quarter comeback win over visiting Moon, 49-42, in Section 5-AAA.
Sierra Kotchman finished with 12 points and classmate Abbey O’Connor had 14 for the Hillers (3-0, 6-0). Trinity trailed 40-36 after the third quarter before the Hillers rattled off a 13-2 run over the final eight minutes.
Moon (1-1, 4-2) was led by Amirah Moore’s 13 points
Washington 66, Beth-Center 25: Mya Gordon and India March each scored 18 points for Washington as the Prexies defeated Beth-Center, 66-25, in Section 5-AA.
The Prexies (3-0, 5-1) had a strong first half and built a 31-14 lead. Washington then outscored Beth-Center (0-2, 2-5) 22-7 in the third quarter to pull away.
The Bulldogs were led by Anna Bartman, who scored 15 points for Beth-Center.
Chartiers Houston 67, Steel Valley 36: Jayla Youngbood had a triple-double and Chartiers-Houston defeated Steel Valley, 67-36, in Section 4-AA.
Youngblood finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Bucs and Addy Knetzer led Chartiers-Houston (2-1, 4-2) in scoring with 22 points and 10 rebounds to secure the win.
Steel Valley was led in scoring by Cayley Labishak, who finished with 12 points, and Rayon Williams’ 13 points.
Belle Vernon 66, Waynesburg 39: Waynesburg could not overcome a two-point second quarter and Belle Vernon’s Kaitlyn Slagus scored 20 points as the Raiders fell to the Leopards, 66-39, in Section 4-AAA.
The Raiders (0-3, 1-5) were led by Lyndsey Huhn’s 13 points, but Waynesburg was outscored 20-2 in the second quarter after trailing by eight after eight minutes.
Belle Vernon (2-1, 5-1) was also led by Bria Rathway’s 17 points.
Charleroi 44, South Side Beaver 39:Lynsey Wright scored 18 points and Charleroi played a tough defensive game as the Cougars defeated South Side Beaver, 44-39, in Section 5-AA.
Carina Gottheld added 11 points for Charleroi (2-1, 5-1) as the Cougars bounced back from a loss to Washington. South Side Beaver was led in scoring by Cheyenne Wilkins, who scord 10 points.
California 33, Burgettstown 26: California used a strong fourth quarter and some long-range shooting from freshman Jenna Miller to defeat host Burgettstown 33-26 in a non-section game.
Miller scored 12 points, making four three-pointers. Kylie Huffman also had 12 points for the Trojans (4-2).
The game was tied 24-24 after three quarters, but Cal held Burgettstown (0-6) to two fourth-quarter points. The Blue Devils were led by Katie Tarr’s eight points.
Frazier 50, West Greene 42: Hannah Kline led three Frazier players in double figures with 16 points and the Commodores dealt visiting West Greene its first loss, 50-42, in a non-section game.
Kaley Barota scored 12 points and Cassidy Guiser had 11 for Frazier (5-1).
Alyssa Raber had a big night for West Greene (3-1), scoring a game-high 24 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The Pioneers held a 33-21 edge on the boards. Madison Raber scored 14 points.
Canon-McMillan 50, East Islip (N.Y.) 34: Daneille Parker’s 24 points led Canon-McMillan to a 50-34 win over East Islip (N.Y.) in the KSA Classic in Orlando, Fla.
McGuffey 54, North Greene (Tenn.) 42: Sammie Weiss scored 20 points to lead McGuffey to a 54-42 victory over North Greene (Tenn.) in the KSA Classic in Orlando, Fla.
Fort Cherry 48, Cornell 45: Sean Darragh scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Fort Cherry snapped Cornell’s four-game winning streak by defeating the visiting Raiders 48-45 in a non-section game.
The Rangers won with defense, holding Cornell (4-2) to its lowest point total of the season. Fort Cherry (3-3) also made some clutch free throws in the final minute to seal the victory. It was the third win in a row for the Rangers.
Zak Dysert had a big game for Fort Cherry, scoring 14 points and combining with Jesse McKean and Matt McKay to hold Cornell’s 6-7 Kevin Korzen to five points, 15 below his average.
Dane Jackson, who averages 30 points per game, led Cornell with 31.
