Harding’s free throws give Vulcans OT win

Quentin Harding hit a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining to lift California over Edinboro, 73-72, in a PSAC West men’s college basketball game Wednesday night.
Harding’s free throws came moments after Edinboro’s Jamal Bailey scored on a tip-in with 18 seconds remaining to give the Scots (9-7, 13-7) the lead, 72-7-1.
Harding had 21 points, while Tynell Fortune and Anthony Lyle came off the bench to score 16 and 12, respectively, for the Vulcans (8-8, 9-11), who led 39-30 at the half.
Bryan Theriot had 20 points off the bench for Edinboro, while Jay Fletcher added 14 and Jonathan Logan 11 in the losing effort.
Grove City 60, W&J 52: A slow start proved costly to the W&J men in a 60-52 loss.
W&J (6-8, 8-15) pulled within one possession on several occasions in the second half, but turnovers cost them a chance at victory. The Presidents committed 20 in the game.
The Presidents held Grove City (4-9, 8-14) to only 33 percent shooting from the floor, but the Wolverines knocked down nine shots from behind the arc, which proved to be the difference.
Grove City’s Evan Schell led all scorers with 18, while W&J was led by Ben Cecchini with 11 points.
Thiel 63, Waynesburg 51: Chace McKinney scored 16 points and Thiel used a strong rebounding performance in the game to take a 63-51 victory from Thiel in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game in Greenville.
The win pushed Thiel to 12-8, including 9-5 in the conference. Waynesburg fell to 9-14 overall and 4-10 in the conference.
Ladell Trotty tossed in 15 points and Anthony Harvey 12 for Thiel, which outrebounded Waynesburg, 50-35. McKinney, Trotter and Harvey combined for 22 rebounds.
Jason Probst led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points and Thomas Eliis chipped in with 11.
Horrid shooting in the second half, in which California University missed 30 of 34 attempts and all 10 attempts from three-point range, resulted in a 60-41 loss to host Edinboro in a PSAC West game.
Cal led 24-22 at halftime but would be outscored, 38-17, in the second half.
The Vulcans fell to 14-6, including 10-6 in the conference. Edinboro is 16-4 and 13-3 in the conference.
Kiara Brown led the Fighting Scots with 24 points, Samantha Blazetic added 16 and Aignee Freeland had 10. Freeland and Blazetic each pulled down nine rebounds.
Irina Kukolj led Cal with 12 points, 10 coming in the first half. Emma Mahady had a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
Waynesburg 84, Thiel 75: Three players scored in double figures and Waynesburg pulled away in the second half for an 84-75 victory over Thiel in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game.
Waynesburg led 39-37 at halftime but outscored Thiel, 45-38, over the final 20 minutes for the win.
Brittany Spencer led the Yellow Jackets (10-5, 11-11) with 18 points and had seven rebounds. Gina Rievel added 14 points and also had seven rebounds. Heather Davis contributed 10 points.
Kelly Muffley scored a game-high 25 points for Thiel (5-10, 6-16) and Kelly Barzak added 21 points and had 10 rebounds.
