California University opened its women’s softball season Friday by winning two games at the Pembroke Invitational in Pembroke, N.C. The Vulcans opened the season with a 9-7 victory over Concord and followed it with a 6-2 win over North Carolina-Pembroke.

Against Concord (2-3), freshman Alex Sagl drove in four runs and was the winning pitcher in a relief role. Sagl struck out nine in 4 1/3 innings in her college debut. At the plate, Sagl was 3-for-4 with a triple, solo homer and two runs scored.

Cal freshman Lindsay Reicoff threw a complete game against UNC-Pembroke, scattering seven hits. Reicoff helped her own cause by going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and one run. Shelby Lia hit a solo home run and Stephani Ellis had a two-run double.
