Clintell Gillaspie had a double-double and Monessen held off a fourth-quarter charge by South Allegheny to take a 60-52 victory in WPIAL Class A preliminary-round game at Keystone Oaks Friday.

Gillaspie had 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Greyhounds (10-13), who led 27-16 at halftime and 41-27 after three quarters. Justice Rawlins tossed in 18 points and Tyler Yuille had four points and 10 rebounds. Javon Brown added five assists.

Keenan Hickton led South Allegheny (8-13) with 18 points.

Carlynton 33 Charleroi 31

Made shots were few and far between for the Charleroi girls’ basketball team as the Cougars scored only 11 second-half points, dropping their WPIAL Class AA Preliminary Round matchup to Carlynton 33-31.

Carlynton led 23-20 at the half, but both teams struggled on offense in the second half, combining to score only 21 points.

Mia Woytovich and Lynsey Wright each scored 12 points for Charleroi (10-2, 15-7). Carlynton (7-5, 13-10) was led by Jordan Melko, who scored a game-high 13.
