College baseball: Cal men lose first

Oliver Girman drove in three runs as Penn State-Greater Allegheny handed California University its first loss of the season in an 8-5 non-conference win in a men’s baseball at Consol Energy Field Wednesday.

Zach Krivda got the win for Penn State-Greater Allegheny (1-0), throwing one shutout inning. The winners used seven different pitchers.

California High School graduate Ben Carson had two hits, both doubles, and two RBI for Cal (3-1), which also got two hits each from Kyle Petty and David Marcus.

Cory Craig took the loss for the Vulcans, allowing five runs, all earned, in 2 2/3 innings.
