California University of Pennsylvania hired Emedin Sabic Monday to replace Dennis Laskey as head coach of the men’s soccer program.
Sabic played for Laskey, making more than 50 starts between 2003-06, and most recently had been an assistant coach under Laskey, a position he took in 2010 after working three years with the women’s program.
Sabic started his coaching career at Cal U. as an assistant with the women’s soccer program in 2007, helping the Vulcans jump from four wins to 31 between 2007-08.
Originally from Bosnia, Sabic moved to Germany in 1991 and played club soccer in Europe until his family moved to the United States in 1991.
He played high school soccer at Erie Cathedral Prep, helping the Ramblers to a PIAA title in 2001, and earned his undergraduate degree in business administration in 2007, his master’s degree in 2008.
Sabic has been an assistant for two teams (the 2009 women, the 2011 men) that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and Seton Hill University became official members of the PSAC in all sports Monday, giving the conference 18 competing schools.
With the additions, the PSAC is now the largest conference in college athletics at any level.
The additions of UPJ and Seton Hill are the first for the PSAC since the league added Ganon and Mercyhurst in 2008.
