Things held to three hits in road loss to Miners

Preston Vancil tossed a three-hitter and Cory Harrilchak hit a home run to power Southern Illinois to a 5-0 victory over the Wild Things Thursday evening at Rent One Park in Marion, Ill.

Vancil struck out seven and allowed only three hits as he raised his record to 6-1 and lowered his ERA to 2.02 for the Miners.

Harrilchak had an RBI single in a two-run fourth and cracked a two-run home run in the sixth to make it 4-0. Phil Butler drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Gary Lee (4-7) surrendered five runs over eight innings for Washington. The Nos. 1-4 hitters in the Wild Things lineup went 0-for-14.
