FLORENCE, Ky. – Junior Arrojo drove in four runs, including one in the sixth inning, to help Florence hold off the Wild Things, 7-5, Tuesday night at UCMC Stadium.

Florence built a 5-0 lead after four innings only to see the Wild Things score two in the fifth and three in the sixth to tie the game.

Florence then added a single run in the sixth and seventh innings to put the game away.

Arrojo began the game for Florence with a double and scored on a single by Byron Wiley. Jacob Tanis drove in Wiley with a single to make it 2-0.

Florence stretched the lead to 3-0 in the second inning when Arrojo drove in Pablo Bermudez with a single.

The Freedom lead reached 5-0 in the fourth when Jim Jacquot and Gary Owens hit back-to-back singles, then were sacrificed to second and third on a bunt by J.C. Figueroa. Arrojo doubled them both in for the five-run lead.

Washington clawed back in the fifth when Jim Vahalik was hit by a pitch and Darian Sandford got a bunt single. A.J. Nunziato scored Vahalik with a single and Sandford came around to score on a grounder back to the pitcher by Stewart Ijames.

In the sixth inning, Gus Benusa hit a two-run double to close the gap to 5-4 and Vahalik tied the game with a double that scored Benusa.

But Arrojo singled in Bermudez in the sixth and Jacob Tanis hit a solo home run in the seventh.

Daniel DeSimone (6-2) picked up the win in relief of starter Jason Wilson. Freedom’s bullpen went 3 2/3 shutout innings with no hits and four strikeouts.

Shawn Smith (3-3), who gave up six runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings, took the loss.

The Wild Things return home Friday for a doubleheader with the Frontier League Greys, beginning at 5 p.m. at Conol Energy Park.
