The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team swept a season-opening doubleheader with Bethany yesterday. Both games were originally supposed to be played in West Virginia but were moved to Washington because of field conditions.

Eddie Nogay threw a two-hit shutout in the first game, a 6-0 win for W&J, striking out six and walking none. Derek McIlvaine, D.J. Michalski, Josh Staniscia and Scott Liller had two hits apiece for the Presidents. Ronny Peirish added a two-run triple.

In the second game, a 18-0 rout, W&J used a nine-run sixth to blow things open.

Brian O’Neill got the win, working five innings. Staniscia paced the offense by going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Michalski scored three runs.
