Cal baseball winning streak reaches 8

California University extended its winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep over Glenville State, 18-0 and 4-2, at Consol Energy Park Thursday afternoon.

Cal, which has played 10 consecutive home games, is 11-2. Glenville fell to 1-14. The Pioneers are played their first season of baseball after the program was reinstated following a 30-year hiatus.

Kyle Thomas was the winning pitcher in the opener, throwing four scoreless innings, and Luke Burton had three no-hit innings of relief for the save.

Kyle Petty was 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs and three RBI to lead Cal at the plate. Petty also played four postions. David Marcus also had three hits, a triple and three RBI. AJ Robinson tripled and drove in three runs, and Chuck Gasti hit a solo homer.

In the second game, winning pitcher Mick Fennell allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings, and Adam Mylant got the final out for a save.

Cal had only three hits but stole five bases. Chris Mitko drove in a run and scored.
