Baseball: W&J pitchers dominate Geneva

Washington & Jefferson pitchers allowed only one run and six hits over two games as the Presidents swept Geneva 10-0 and 3-1 Friday at Ross Memorial Park.

The win improves W&J to 5-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference and 8-4 overall. Geneva is 0-2, 5-9.

Eddie Nogay improved his record to 4-0 by throwing five shutout innings in the opener. Nogay struck out five and gave up only two hits. He lowered his ERA to 0.69. Mark Rizzo and Corey Young (Ringgold) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief to complete the shutout.

John Kutzfara had four hits, including his first career home run, to lead the W&J offense. Derek McIlvaine (Chartiers-Houston) drove in two runs.

Brian O’Neill threw a three-hit complete game in the nightcap, striking out six.

W&J broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth, getting a run-scoring wild pitch and an RBI-triple by McIlvaine.
