Softball: C-M stays unbeaten in section

Olivia Lorusso hit a three-run home run and drove in three to help Canon-McMillan roll to a 15-2 victory over Upper St. Clair in a five-inning Section 4-AAAA game.

Maddie Engel went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI and Abby McCartney went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI for the Big Macs (13-0, 14-1). Giorgiana Zeremenko went 2-for-3 with a double, Ally Bellaire doubled and Linda Rush rapped a triple for the Big Macs, who had 12 hits.

Katelyn Poremski had a double and Frankie Gaurino a triple for USC (1-12, 1-12).

• Bailey Bennington struck out 15 batters to lead West Greene to a 4-1 victory over Avella in a non-section game.

Bennington set the school single-season record for strikeouts in a season with 150, passing Paige Moninger, who had 142 in 2010. The 15 strikeouts matched Bennington’s season high.

Autumn Widdup had a two-run double for the Pioneers (10-7) in the seventh inning.

Lauren Knight had the only hit for Avella (4-13).

• Greensburg Salem scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on an error in a 1-0 win over Belle Vernon in a non-section game.

Jayne Oberdorf and Maggie Hantz each had a double for GS (14-1). Molly Gauden had three singles for BV (8-11).
