Baseball: CH clinches playoff berth

Chartiers-Houston clinched a playoff spot in Section 2-AA with a not-so-pretty 12-9 victory over Charleroi. The two teams combined for 21 runs, 20 hits and 14 errors.

Dylan Pounds drove in three runs for the Bucs (9-4, 11-6). Doug Dinardo and Nick Grady each had a double.

Gunnar Young doubled and David Riley tripled for the Cougars (0-13, 1-14), who made nine errors. The Bucs made five.

• Washington scored three times in the first to produce a 6-1 victory over Fort Cherry in a Section 2-AA game.

Chris Gouin had a triple for the Prexies (10-3, 11-4). Kyle Witzberger doubled for Fort Cherry (6-7, 6-10).

• Ben Carlisle had a key two-run single in the second inning to help cement a 4-2 victory by Bentworth over Burgettstown in a Section 2-AA game.

Trevor Wood doubled and Adam Bell hit two triples for the Bearcats (8-5, 9-4). Noah Hiles doubled for Burgettstown (4-9, 5-9).

• California won its fourth game in a row with a 10-2 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in a Section 1-A game. Josh Luko struck out 13 for Cal (7-2, 13-4). Chris Swartz had a double.

Jordan Dicks had a double for J-M (7-2, 13-4). Both teams are in the playoffs.

• Brownsville remained one game behind Section 2-AA leader Washington with an 11-7 victory over Beth-Center.

Bryce Shea doubled for the Falcons (9-4, 12-4).

Lucas Bellie went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for BC (6-7, 6-8). Tyler Beyer went 3-for-4 and had two RBI and Seth Hvizda doubled.
