Softball: Kutztown comeback clips Cal in PSAC title game

Kutztown scored the game’s final six runs, including three on a walk-off homer in the 10th inning, as the Golden Bears rallied to defeat California 10-7 in the PSAC championship game Saturday in Quakertown.
The Vulcans fall to 36-4 overall and will likely receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II tournament after being the top-ranked team in the Atlantic Region for the last three weeks. Kutztown improved to 29-21 and earned the PSAC’s automatic berth to the national tournament.
California led 7-4 in the fifth inning before Kutztown mounted its comeback that ended with Brianna’ Knipe three-run homer in the 10th. It gave Kutztown the school’s first PSAC softball championship.
The Vulcans’ Shelny Lia 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, two runs scored and one stolen base. Stephanie Ellis finished 3-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored, and Shelby Heyd collected a pair of hits and RBI.
