Washington High School running back Shai McKenzie has been nominated to play in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, one of the most prestigious high school all-star football games in the country.

McKenzie (6-0, 215) was one of 400 nominees and will hope to be one of the final 90 selected, which will be done periodically throughout the fall.

The game is scheduled for Jan. 4, 2014, and the East-West matchup will be televised live on NBC at 1 p.m.

Last year’s game drew a record-crowd of 40,133 to the Alamodome in San Antonio. According to the game’s website, 195 active NFL players have been a part of the event, including Adrian Peterson and Andrew Luck.

McKenzie was nominated by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee, which consists of All-American Games, 247Sports – the bowl’s online recruiting network – and a network of coaches throughout the country.

McKenzie rushed for 2,689 yards and 41 touchdowns on 232 carries last fall.

He averaged 11.6 yards per carry, 37.4 yards per touchdown and accounted for 262 total points, as the Prexies won the WPIAL Class AA Interstate Conference title and reached the WPIAL Class AA final at Heinz Field.

McKenzie was an all-state selection and was named the Observer-Reporter’s Player of the Year.
