Softball: McGuffey wins on Weiss’ three-hitter

Marlee Mounts homered as McGuffey topped Southmoreland, 7-2, Thursday in a non-section softball game.

Winning pitcher Cassie Weiss allowed only three hits, and Sammie Weiss and Meghan Shultz doubled for playoff-bound McGuffey (14-5).

Bri Bunner homered for Southmoreland (8-9).

• Winning pitcher Abby Gustovich also doubled as Beth-Center defeated Mapletown, 14-4, in a six-inning non-section game.

Miranda Andrews added a triple, while Ally Trippy, Kayla Kriebel and Cory Kuntz all doubled for the Bulldogs (5-9).

• Bailey Bennington and Jordan Rush combined on a no-hitter as West Greene defeated Geibel, 4-0, in a non-section game.

Bennington struck out 14 in 6 2/3 innings before Rush got the final out for the Pioneers (11-9), who got a triple from Madison Raber and doubles from Emily Stoll and Faith Cross.
