A nine-run sixth inning helped Washington & Jefferson College to a 14-3 victory over Saint Vincent in the opening round of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament Thursday at Ross Memorial Park.

The Presidents (28-11) advance to face Thomas More, a 14-1 winner Thursday over Thiel, at noon today. Thiel will face Saint Vincent at 3 p.m. in an elimination game.

The Presidents sent 13 batters to the plate in the sixth as Kyle McClain and Scott Brady each had a pair of hits in the inning.

Brady, McLain and Chartiers-Houston graduate Derek McIlvaine all had three hits to pace the Presidents’ offense. McIlvaine scored three times and knocked in two, while McLain scored twice and drove in three.

Junior Eddie Nogay improved to 10-1 with the win, becoming the first W&J player to earn a double-figure victory total during a single season. Nogay tossed seven innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits, while striking out three. He is now 20-1 for his career.

Gary Gerhardt suffered the loss for Saint Vincent, while Jordan Britcher collected two hits and scored twice.
