Carmichaels advances on Burns’ 1-hit shutout

BALDWIN – Erica Burns allowed only one hit and Carmichaels erupted for 12 hits in four innings Monday to take a 15-0 victory from Jeannette in a WPIAL Class A quarterfinal softball game.

Burns struck out eight and allowed only two baserunners for the third-seeded Mikes (20-2). Carmichaels has won six in a row and 17 out of 18.

Danielle McClellan went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs, Regina Menhart was 2-for-3 and had two RBI and Morgan Berardi doubled and drove in two more. Caroline Cree also doubled.

Carmichaels scored eight runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth to reach the 15-run limit.

Delaney Cortazzo doubled for the only hit by Jeannette (15-4).
