Backed by a strong pitching performance by Shawn Blackwell, the Washington Wild Things won their fifth game in a row after a 7-1 victory thumping of Windy City Friday night in Crestwood, Ill.

Windy City lost for the sixth straight game, scoring its only run of the game on a solo home run by Chad Cregar in the second inning.

Blackwell (1-2) went six innings, allowed just four hits and struck out seven. He was supported by a 12-hit attack by the offense, highlighted by a two-run home run by Shain Stoner in the third inning that wiped out an early 1-0 lead by Windy City. Washington’s bullpen went three innings without allowing a run and just two hits.

C.J. Beatty went 3-for-5 and scored three runs. Beatty had an RBI-single in a three-run fifth that gave the Wild Things a 5-1 lead. Darian Standford had two hits and scored a run. Jim Vahalic had a solo home run for Washington in the sixth inning.
