Carpenter leads PT girls to PIAA win

MILL HALL – Laurel Carpenter scored a pair of goals and Meghan Parker made them stand, as Peters Township defeated State College, 2-0, in the first round of the PIAA Class AAA high school girls soccer match Tuesday at Central Mountain High School.

Carpenter scored off a pass from Mariah Vucich in the 19th minute, then added an unassisted goal in the second half off a free kick from 30 yards out for the Indians (17-5-1).

Parker had four saves in goal for Peters Township, which faces Seneca Valley, a 1-0 winner over Bethel Park, in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

The site and time of that game have yet to be determined.

Bedford 4, South Fayette 2: Bedford, the District 5 champions, ended South Fayette’s season with a 4-2 win over the Lions in the opening round of the PIAA Class AA boys playoffs at Northern Bedford High School.

No further information was provided.

South Fayette was the WPIAL runner-up.
