Junior Erin Hogan recorded a career-high six points Sunday, as the top-seeded California University earned a 6-1 victory over fifth-seeded Kutztown in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
The Vulcans improve to 18-2-2 overall and extend their unbeaten streak to 19 games (18-0-1). The Vulcans also posted an unbeaten home record for the third time in school history, finishing the year with an 11-0-1 record. Cal will face No. 12 Slippery Rock in the third round of the tournament Friday in Albany, N.Y.
Kutztown finishes the year with a 13-7-0 mark.
Hogan finished with six points after collecting a pair of goals and assists. She moved into a tie for second place in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference history with 43 career assists, which also ranks as the second-most assists among active players in NCAA Division II.
Alex Ovechkin won the head-to-head matchup between the NHL’s two leading goal scorers, getting a pair in the first period to move into a tie with Alexander Steen in the Washington Capitals’ 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues.
Zach Randolph scored nine of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and also had 10 rebounds to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 97-86 victory over the Sacramento Kings.
