Big first half carries Belle Vernon over Trinity

BELLE VERNON – Belle Vernon did all its scoring in the first half and defeated visiting Trinity, 28-0, Friday night in a Big Nine Conference game.

Cody Menges ran for two short touchdowns and caught a 77-yard scoring pass from quarterback Mike Fine as Belle Vernon moved to 2-3 in the conference and 2-4 overall. Menges had four receptions for 109 yards, and Fine completed eight of 18 passes for 157 yards.

Cameron Quinto returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown during the Leopards’ 21-point second quarter. Derek Verkleeren rushed for 166 yards on 18 carries.

Forrest Cullings completed 10 of 15 passes for 145 yards for Trinity (1-4, 1-5), which was slowed by turnovers. Nicholas Moretti caught six passes for 106 yards.
