CALIFORNIA – Jeff Knox had two short touchdown runs, and California scored 21 fourth-quarter points, to pull away for a 35-7 victory over Clarion in a PSAC West Division game Saturday at Adamson Stadium.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Cal (2-1, 4-2).

Knox scored on runs of one and two yards, the latter giving the Vulcans a 21-0 lead in the first minute of the fourth quarter. After Clarion (1-2, 3-3) turned the ball over on downs at its own 26-yard line, Cal’s Nick Grissom scored on a seven-yard run to push the Vulcans’ lead to 28-0 with 7:21 remaining.

A 39-yard punt return by Trey Johnson set up Cal’s final score, a 23-yard pass from Cody Schroeder with 5:45 left.

Knox, who led Cal with 89 rushing yards on 15 carries, gave the Vulcans a 7-0 lead when he scored on a one-yard plunge late in the first quarter. The Vulcans made it 14-0 early in the second quarter when wide receiver Mike Williams hauled in a 52-yard touchdown pass from James Harris.

Harris completed 14 of 25 passes for 214 yards. Williams was his favorite target, catching seven passes for 118 yards.

Clarion avoided the shutout when quarterback Darelle Carson capped a 12-play drive with a one-yard TD run with 2:49 remaining. The Golden Eagles have lost three in a row after opening the season with three consecutive wins.
