The Pirates traded infield prospect Jimmy Rider to the Boston Red Sox for future considerations.

Rider, a graduate of Peters Township, is a 23-year-old shortstop who hit .269 with two home runs and 22 RBI in 37 games between low-Class A Jamestown and Class A West Virginia this season.

The Kent State product was a 26th-round draft pick by the Pirates in 2012 and hit a combined .222 with 2 home runs, 29 RBI and 8 stolen bases.
