PT girls advance in shootout

BRIDGEVILLE – Peters Township had to work a little longer than usual but the Indians managed to advance to the WPIAL Class AAA girls soccer semifinals.
Junior Madison Santo scored a goal in the fourth round of a shootout gave Peters Township a 1-0 victory over defensive-minded Pine Richland Wednesday night in the quarterfinals at Chartiers Valley High School.
PT (15-4-1) won the shootout 4-2 as goalkeeper Megan Parker made two key saves for the Indians, who will play Bethel Park in the semifinals Monday. laurel Carpenter, Carly Johns and Riley Partka scored in the shootourt to give PT a 3-1 lead. After Pine Richland scored to pull tow ithin 3-2, Santo buried her game-winner.
The Indians had a chance to win in the final minute of the second overtime period but had a shot from 15 yards, taken by Parker, who left the goal, sail over the crossbar.
Pine Richland fell to 12-6-2.
Seneca Valley 2, Canon-McMillan 0: Top-seeded Seneca Valley knocked visiting Canon-McMillan out of the Class AAA playoffs, 2-0, in the quarterfinals.
Seneca Valley, which received a first-round bye, improved to 16-2-1.
Canon-McMillan, a 1-0 shootout winner over Norwin in the first round, fell to 13-4-3.
