Heslin throws 5 TD passes in Fort Cherry win

Senior quarterback Matt Heslin completed eight of 11 passes for 165 yards and five touchdowns as Fort Cherry rolled to a 50-14 victory over California in a Class A Black Hills Conference game.

Heslin set the tone for the game on its first play from scrimmage when he connected with Alex Babirad for a 60-yard score and 7-0 Fort Cherry lead.

Heslin and Babirad then teamed up for touchdowns of eight and 54 yards, all in the game’s first 13 minutes. All three of Babirad’s receptions went for touchdowns.

Heslin also threw first-half TD passes of 15 yards to Scott Miller and 21 yards to Zach Dysert. Heslin and Dysert also hooked up for a two-point conversion.

Running back Koltan Kobrys had another big game for FC (2-0, 2-0) as he ran for 218 yards on 13 carries, which included a 97-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. The Rangers had nearly 500 yards in total offense.

Austin Hunter rushed for 122 yards on 22 carries and scored on runs of 40 and one yards for California (0-2, 0-2).
