PERRYOPOLIS – Quarterback Brandon Lawless passed for two touchdowns, ran for two more, and had one of four interceptions by the Carmichaels defense as the Mikes defeated Frazier, 30-22, Friday night in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game.

Lawless threw touchdown passes of 10 and four yards to Tyler Aeschbacher and ran two yards for a score – all in the second quarter – as Carmichaels (2-0, 2-0) forged a 24-0 lead late in the first half. Carmichaels converted two-point conversions on all three of their first-half scores. Lawless ran for one conversion, and threw to Aeschbacher for another. Tailback Brennan McMinn also ran for a two-pointer.

Frazier (1-1, 1-1), which defeated Geibel 81-0 in its season opener, scored on a 20-yard pass from quarterback Charles Manack to Nate Zurich on the final play of the first half, and Manack threw to Michael Luce on the conversion to cut the Mikes’ lead to 24-8 at halftime.

The Commodores then made it 24-16 on the opening drive of the second half as Manack and Zurich hooked up again for a TD pass, this one covering nine yards. Hunter Patterson added the two-point conversion on a run.

Carmichaels, however, answered with a touchdown drive that drained 10:48 off the clock and was culminated by Lawless’ one-yard sneak, pushing the Mikes’ lead to 30-16.

A long return on the ensuing kickoff and late-hit penalty against Carmichaels gave Frazier excellent scoring position, and the Commodores scored on a two-play drive, capped by Manack’s one-yard run that made the score 30-22 with 10:13 remaining.

Frazier had three more possessions, but interceptions by Carmichaels’ Nate Baker and Cody Allen thwarted two drives and and another ended when the Commodores turned the ball over on downs.

Allen had two interceptions for the Mikes and has three on the season.
